Death, a Reconciled friend

Heb 2:14B (KJV)”…That through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.

My brother was murdered in 2005, it was the first time that our family was touched by death so closely , and it was one of the saddest times in our lives… he was the youngest and the only son amongst four sisters; he was the apple of mom’s eyes. He was a wonderful young man of twenty six, whose life was ended for no apparent justifiable reason.

From time to time after his death, I was overwhelmed with sadness and sorrow. And was in so much turmoil thinking of how could ‘’death’’ just come along and snetch him away… where was God? Until one day in 2008 I was praying, reading the Word, and thinking about that tragic moment in time.

As I read the Scriptures, It ministered to me, and as I read this excerpt from the Matthew Henry‘s Commentary… I knew that God had given me peace of heart, the passage read: ’Death is not only a conquered enemy, but a reconciled friend, not sent to hurt the soul or separate it from the love of God, it is a passage to eternal life and blessedness..’’

My brother has passed to eternal life and blessedness, and although I miss him so very much, I don’t see death as the enemy, who stole him, but as a passage, a gate, a door to Eternal Life…

Another powerful scripture is in Romans 8:28 where God in His love tells us that Nothing can separate us from His love that is in Christ Jesus our Lord; ‘’…neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come..’’

The pain of losing a loved one cannot be measured or contained, it makes no sense today and never will, but God’s love will sustain you, and He give you strength and wisdom to go boldly unto the throne of Grace, that you may obtain mercy and find Grace in time of need…(Hebrews 4:16 KJV)
